As the Director of Bands for Yorktown HS, Dr. Bersh commissioned Voyage to be written in commemoration of the 10-year anniversary of the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster and in remembrance of the seven crew members who perished during re-entry – including Yorktown High School alum, U.S. Navy Captain, and NASA Astronaut, David Brown. The U.S. Army Brass Quintet was featured in this composition.

Rather than becoming a portrait of tragedy, Voyage was written to harness the best personal qualities of David M. Brown and his fellow crew members: unbreakable determination, a hunger for adventure, a perpetual thirst for knowledge, and a relentless positive energy that is still expressed in the testimony of every friend and family member.
The piece concludes with the hymn, The Irish Blessing, which serves both as Yorktown High's alma mater and the crewmembers' last goodbye.
